FAQs

You can find below a list of frequently asked questions about iOrasis. Please also refer to our Help Center for an extensive list of tutorials on common tasks.

We also suggest that you visit our Getting Started page if you are new to iOrasis.

How can I start using iOrasis?

You can register in our private forum and then download our setup program to start working with iOrasis immediately. You download a fully operational version of the SDK that allows you to test and develop on all supported cardsets. The only limitation of the downloaded version is that it displays the XVUE logo from time to time. The iOrasis development SDK license can be used only for development and cannot be used for any other purpose. For runtime licenses please refer to our licensing model and to our iOrasis OEM.SDK flavors page for an appropriate version of iOrasis. Support and runtime licenses are offered only for customers that have purchased the iOrasis OEM.SDK annual support contract.

What is the difference between iOrasis and other custom broadcast graphics SDKs?

iOrasis is not only a broadcast graphics SDK, is much more than that. The conventional approach suggests one 'box' for graphics, one 'box' for video playback, one 'box' for  DVE or mixing of multiple inputs and so on. iOrasis approach provides an SDK that can offer all these functions in a single box and not just allow savings on equipment but also greatly improve application functionality, robustness and flexibility for modifications and upgrades; if we add the innovative approach of user defined effects through the key-frame able properties of all objects (not only graphics) we have a unique approach to the live production environment and always on top of the leading video hardware platform available today; the unparalleled Matrox DSX family power is now available for easy development of your projects.

I am a Matrox OEM/developer. Why I need to use iOrasis on top of the Matrox SDK?

iOrasis offers a high level approach implementing integrated objects that incorporates a developed self-contained functionality. There are several benefits for the Matrox OEM/developer that uses this high level approach:

  • Easy handling and configuration of these common objects in a much simpler way than through the Matrox SDK, without loosing the flexibility that only coding can offer.
  • Concentration on the real application logic and data associations required in the project.
  • Transparent support for all cardsets and new products as they become available from iOrasis SDK, with minimum or no changes in your code.
  • Last but not least access to Matrox's hardware directly from .NET languages like VB .NET and C# for RAD development.

What is needed to use the 3D capability of iOrasis?

You need an appropriate Matrox cardset configuration like an X.io or X.mio card together with an DSXFX board or an DSXLE card together with an appropriate DirectX9 graphics card and the appropriate iOrasis version that supports 3D effects. Please refer to the "Notes" section of our supported platforms page for more information.

Why is it necessary to write code in order to air my project?

The SDK approach was selected from XVUE for maximum flexibility and creativity. The "channel-in-a-box" approach offers unlimited configuration options that would be lost through a general purpose user interface. At the same time we provide a very high level approach for easy programming through .NET languages and environments like VB and C#. The lines of code that you need to write for a simple project may be no more than a page and you can always modify this logic by yourself. If you think that coding is out of question for your organization you can always consider contacting us for an  end user application development.

I want a preview of my cascading effect tree without special video hardware. Do you have a solution for that?

The iOrasis designer or the SDK can be used in a laptop or standard PC in order to actually preview your design without the need of special hardware. In case that you also want to preview stored video that has been encoded with broadcast video codecs, you can use Matrox's hardware without video I/O that supports these codecs (X.open).
